We decided to go ahead with basement renovations and hired a guy to do everything. Here are pics of the tile job!

False advertising

Here is the remnant of a Hartz toy Tabitha bought today at Walmart. Supposedly a long lasting chew toy perfect for tugging...lasted all of 10 minutes. Our doodles should be product testers. Don't buy Hartz!

Findings

So, I was watching this show on Discovery called American Pickers. And I wondered if some of our house things would be worth advertising to sell...example, a circa 1920 Prosperity stove from Sears and Roebuck, left in the shed out back by the previous owners. I suspect this stove has been in the shed for a while.

In the drawers of the stove I found these old Herald Leader newspapers from 1973. I was 3 years old, Nixon was president, and the paper cost $.10.  But has the news really changed?

Funny pic from today

This guy was trying to hide while smoking at the entrance of Home Depot, in front of the No Smoking sign mind you. Priceless.

Tile renovation continued...

Tile renovation project

Most of you know that we have a basement apartment in very poor condition. Well, this week, we had a plumber come over and move to shampoo bowl down there with hopes of converting it into a hair room for Tabitha and a craft spot for me. This pics here are from earlier today, of the newly installed shampoo bowl on a very nasty, dirty wall. After pics up next...

House numbers

Just about everyone who comes to our house says we need house numbers...pizza guy, yard guy, delivery people, friends, etc...and they are tight. We have no house numbers up yet. I decided to create one using a concrete slab bought today from Carpenters Dish Barn in Nicholasville. I decided to mosaic the slab using painted wooden numbers and tile. Here's what I've got so far...oh, and by the way, I've moved all of my art stuff to my own art studio in the downstairs apartment. It's groovy! Salon to move there soon, too! We are welcoming a renter to the upstairs of our house starting July 27th. Change is inevitable...we are going with the flow!

Let's try this again...

Summer

It's been a while since my last post ... summer has been good and days of trying to keep cool have taken over. Playing with the doodles with the water hose helps:-) Good news, our urban tomato garden is flourishing. Barring any squirrel, bird, and pedestrian foot traffic looking for a good bathroom spot ( we SO need a front yard fence), we should have a plentiful tomato crop! Peppers are coming along nicely, too...I'm so proud! I'll try to send more pics more often. I know y'all miss
me :-)

Urban garden continued...

We also have green peppers...we planted them in a pot next to the steps leading up to the front door. Who would've thought these would make it, but it's giving me some great ideas for the future. We also have strawberries planted in another pot next to the peppers...yes, Janice, strawberries...some of us have to do without fields to grow them in:-)

Urban garden

Tabitha and I are trying out gardening...here's a pic of our first tomato! We made a bed on the side of the house, outside of the fence away from the doodles, and so far so good. We have 4 tomato plants in all. Ever heard of gardens in the front yard?? Now you have!
